Conceptual Housing Scheme, Birmingham

A conceptual project that consists of 5 eco houses, set into a wooded hill in Birmingham. The aim here was to create an open plan living space that was separated only by levels; with each room demanding its own terrace, allowing the house to gently step down and follow the slope on which it sits. Clad in dark burnt larch cladding, each structure would blend into the surrounding woodland, with gaps between cladding, allowing views out into the wilderness. A large glazed wall at the bottom of the building leads out onto a modest garden roof terrace which allows you to sit, elevated, within the canopy. Tucked underneath the living space are the bedrooms, with all amenities at the back. Using cleverly placed rooflights and frosted glass; we were able to naturally light the whole house, including the bathrooms that were underground.
